The Dark Magician
By Chuina Asturias
Translated by Nok Gullun
I walked through the dark ominous street ever so vigilianty, seeing I had a good amount of gold on me and could almost sense an attack. Especially with the Yin gang out and about. Those half-kobolds had almost a smell for the precious material. I continued to meander down towards my house as I heard a whisper from a dark alley corner to my left. "Seeking protection are you?" I turned and peered down the alley to try and get a glimpse of the dark figure. "Come closer," I heard as I found myself appraoching the source of this wretched voice. With each step I could start to see the figure of a aman appear from the darkness of the night sky. As I took another look I found that the figure was not that of a kobold but of a human. Releived I continued to walk further down the dark alley. Soon I could see the full figure of a human. The man, a paelish figure, stood erect about 7 feet tall and towered over my gnomish self of about 3 feet. I noticed he wore the mark of the assasin and my heart started to beat faster then usual. "Should I trust this individual?" I knew he wore the mark of the assasin but at the moment I was just happy that he was not a Kobold. I looked up at the dark figure and asked him about his "protection" that he offered. I looked around his vendor precauciously not sure of what to do next. "Ah, so you do seek protection." "No?" I replied, "What kind of protection are you talking about." He smirked and turned towards a chest in the back corner of the alley. I quickly noted the runic symbols as it hit me, this man was a magician! My heart sank as I started to question myself. "Why would you do such an ignorant thing? You knew something bad would happen! Run before he turns you to a rat and guts you!" I peered behind me to see if the path was clear for an escape as he said, "There is no reason to run." "Yet." Astonished that he knew what I was thinking while his back was turned to me I decided to stay and watch. The runic magician walked towards the chest and raised his brittle arms above his head while saying something in an ancient tongue. Luckily, being a scholar, I knew many languages from the olden times and was able to derive from the ancient orcish "Come to me dark spirits, fill me with the power of the ancestors." I started to stumble backwards as the runic symbols on the chest started to glow fiery red. He turned towards me and asked if I was willing to see what he had to offer to me in which I quickly replied, No! Please. Anything but that! Please let me go!" He lauged maniacly at me and soon lowered his arms. "Fine little one, Run away then and tell the guards, by the time they get here I will be gone anyway." I quickly ran out of the dark alley with my pouch of gold still attached. For the rest of the night I wasn't sure what to do, if I went the to guards I would surely be killed and what was in that glowing chest. I began to question if I should have stayed and found out or done what I had done. I laid my head down on my pillow for the night deciding what I had done was best. Or was it?
